Organized Communities CAN Build Stronger Schools   

A six-year study by Annenberg Institute researchers is demonstrating how low-income communities of color are organizing to improve their local schools and increase democratic participation in school reform.  This case study chronicles the work of Oakland Community Organizations (OCO) and their partnership with BayCES to launch the small schools movement in Oakland. 
 
 

Mentors Needed at EOSA High School   

Mentors are needed to support the 100 Black Boys Initiative at East Oakland School of the Arts (EOSA) on the Castlemont campus in Oakland.  Many EOSA youth live among crime, violence, and drug abuse. They need positive adult role models to help them rise above the dysfunction and become productive, contributing citizens.

Oakland Unified School District Press Advisory: Oakland Schools Demonstrate Some of California's Fastest Growth in Latest State Assessment. 29 schools improve API scores by 50 points or better-- more than three times statewide average of 14 points.
