Equity Analysis for Schools and Districts

Measure what you care about, and care about what you measure.
To close achievement gaps, schools and districts need to collect multiple forms of reliable data, assess exactly where the gaps are and explore possible underlying causes. National Equity Project tools and processes help districts and schools learn from current indicators to pinpoint high-leverage interventions to increase educational equity and excellence.

Equity Analysis Services:

  • Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data on student outcomes, school climate, staff morale, and community relations.
  • Organize and cross-analyze data to determine previously unrecognized patterns of student, school, and/or district performance.
  • Assess the ways that staff collaborate to improve instructional quality and school performance through teams, community satisfaction, and student relationships.
  • Assess the attitudes, beliefs, and expectations of stakeholders to reveal deeper attitudes and behaviors that influence academic achievement.
  • Inform the creation of a climate of high expectations and improvements in intermediate indicators of achievement such as attendance and reduced discipline.
  • Focus school improvement efforts on making a decisive break from historic patterns of inequity through data-based cycles of inquiry.

District or school assessments are based on BayCES’ development rubrics to determine strengths and challenges in relation to research-based features of high-performing schools and districts. Equity Analysis tools provide data in up to twelve categories including instructional leadership, professional development, teacher support, data management, cultural responsiveness, and family engagement.

Clients receive a written report and a presentation to the appropriate audience depending on the type and scope of analysis. Data collection and instruments are tailored to school structures and needs. Existing surveys or related data may be used and/or new surveys developed.
