| BayCES coaches instructional teams. Professional Learning Communities (PLC) do not function effectively simply because time is set aside for teachers to meet. BayCES coaching supports leaders to be strategic in helping teacher teams become true communities of learners. BayCES-coached PLC's are Equity-Centered (ECPLC) because the experience and achievement of every student and student group is at the center of all instructional conversation. ECPLC coaching provides partners with: o A year-long professional development plan aligned with available resources and instructional goals. o Effective staff collaboration, across cultural and role differences, on behalf of student learning. o Structures and processes that support continuous learning and improvement (e.g., Critical Friends Groups (CFG), Data-based Inquiry, Reflection Protocols). o Awareness of issues of race, class, and privilege in school culture, achievement, pedagogy, professional development, and planning. "Our coach has helped us develop norms and structures to support the maintenance of our PLC, creating an environment that allows us to enter into critical (and sometimes difficult) conversations about equity, diversity, cultural competence, and student needs." |
