About the National Equity Project...
BayCES is now the National Equity Project! We've changed our name to the National Equity Project. We're the same people with the same mission but we've been expanding into new regions and offering new services so the ‘Bay Area Coalition for Equitable Schools' name no longer fits us. We have an increasing number of partnerships outside the Bay Area (currently in 8 states), and in addition to schools we work with many districts and nonprofits on educational equity initiatives. This growth is all about broadening, deepening, and sustaining our impact on vulnerable young people.Equity is at the center of our new name because it remains the core of our work. While we will continue to work closely with schools and other Bay Area partners, we also aim to change the national conversation about educational equity. Over the past 15 years we have learned many valuable lessons and achieved some success in supporting school, district, and community change. Awareness of the roles of bias in educational disparities is at the center of our work; and we think that equity stances should more deeply inform the national education reform conversation. So we will look for opportunities to enter and influence that conversation as we work with partners across the country. We are particularly interested in collaborating with organizations that are leading or managing large-scale or citywide initiatives that bring other sectors to the table with public education. We believe that every child in America has the right to a quality education. At the National Equity Project, we coach people to become the leaders who make good on that promise. Please stay tuned for more information. Our new website will launch this fall; email subscribers will receive an announcement and an invitation to an inaugural National Equity Project event in October. If you have any questions or feedback, please call or email our Director of Communications and Development, Chris Perrius, at (510) 208-0160 x342 or cperrius@nationalequityproject.org.
